Because of a lack of understanding, legend created diverse attitudes towards the wolf. It was often feared and loathed while on the other hand revered and perceived as a protector.
Mountain people believed the wolf was a guardian; his skull would often be used as a charm to chase demons and shrines were built to encourage the protective power.
