The Polynesian Tree Snail is found throughout the South Pacific, but is mostly concentrated around the Society Islands of French Polynesia. The genus encompasses 123 species, most of which are endemic to specific islands.

On the island of Moorea there are seven endemic species, all are considered to be extinct due to varying reasons. Partula aurantia and Partula exigua are most definitely extinct and the remaining five are clinging on to survival in small captive breeding programmes around the world.
