Not only were the sheer numbers of the pigeons spectacular, the speed at which the pigeons flew was also remarkable. It is estimated that they could travel at almost 60 miles (96km) per hour! Such speed were achieved due to its efficient design: The breast was powerfully muscled for a bird of its size. The streamlined body was complemented by a small head, long streamlined wings and tail and compact plumage. This bird was destined to be a survivor in the battle for species......
